Website Building for Artists

In this workshop you will learn to build your own website using Wix. We will talk about the difference between building a website for sales vs a website for galleries. 

 

We will cover the following topics:

-How to use Wix

-Marketing and Branding yourself as an artist

-How to put a shop on your website

-How to create an artist statement and curriculum vitae

-How to capture emails and send newsletters

-How to integrate your social media into your website

-How to rank better on Google

During the course you will build your own website. You do not have to have a paid site or domain in order to attend this course.

​

You will be given homework assignments throughout the course. The homework will mostly involve writing content for your website and collecting images. These are things you can do independently so your time in class can be used for working on your website.

 

You will need to bring a laptop in order to be able to participate.

​

This course will not be offered again in 2026.

This schedule will give you a general idea of how we will move through the course. Depending on the pace of the class, this schedule may be adjusted.

Week 1: General overview of Wix, website options and domains. Talk about creating an aesthetic, key words, and brand for your website.

​

Week 2: Talk about different content options and plan the content that will be on website. Design an outline based on the content you choose. Create your own Header.

​

Week 3: Build a website together. Click through adding and editing different content together. Then work independently on your website with the ability to ask questions and get help troubleshooting your site.

​

Week 4: How to photograph and price your art. How to create a sales page or a gallery page. How to integrate your instagram into your website.

​

Week 5: Good website practices. On this day we will go over the small details that make a big difference on your website. We will also cover how to create a CV and write an artist statement.

Week 6: We will go over SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Marketing with Newsletters, and Blogging

​

Week 7: Troubleshoot your site! This is a bonus week exclusively dedicated to helping you finish up your site. This week will be used for reviewing, troubleshooting, or launching your site. If there is anything we didn't cover in previous weeks we can talk about it. This day is about making your site look finished and making sure you are confident in it.
